Medieval Krakow

IN THE SEARCH FOR LIGHTMedieval Krakow Saint Hyacinth Trail

After his stay in Dominican's Priory in Rome, Saint Hyacinth returned to Krakow to spread the Good News among the city inhabitants, to teach them how to look for what belongs to Christ. He brought light with him, making the dark, gloomy Krakow bright once again. He founded the first Dominican Priory here, and made himself known as a man of justice and miracle. From here he set for a long and hard journey - spreading the Good News, founding new Priories and helping the poor... We would like to take you out of the dark into the light. We would like to show you the medieval city of Krakow from Saint Hyacinth's perspective. You will get to know the different image of the city, its mysteries, its legends and its unusual places. We offer you a unique trip to the very depths of Polish history and tradition.

Let us start our adventure from the meeting near the Wawel Hill with the guide - wanderer who will take us through the Gate of Time and will equip us with special medieval clothes. Those clothes will help us start our St. Hyacinth's trail in the spirit of poverty...

Listening to old legends and contemplating the atmosphere of the old times we will be able to admire and visit the most important monuments of medieval Krakow - the Royal Castle courtyard and the Cathedral. Then we will pass through the cobble-stone streets to the Europe's biggest medieval square - Krakow's Main Market. On our way we will pass numerous churches, houses, universities and squares where history sleeps in every stone and brick. Following the legendary bugle-call melody we will reach the most important church in the city - Saint Mary's Basilica. We will admire the beauty of the magnificent temple, and will get to know its stories and legends. Its bright interior will reveal to us the city's best guarded medieval pearl - the wooden altar of Veit Stoss. Then passing through the Planty Park, that was planted around the Old Town in place of the medieval defensive walls, we will get to the Holy Trinity Basilica. It is here where the first Dominican Fathers settled in 13th century and it is here where the oldest Dominican Priory is located. Here, in one of the chapels, we will find the Tomb of Saint Hyacinth where the pilgrims and adventurers of different nations come since centuries to beg, to thank and to forgive... If we wish so, the special mass will be celebrated for us in the chapel of St. Hyacinth.

Thanks to Dominican Fathers we will visit the Krakow's Priory, including the places that are not open to public, and we will get to know the secrets of monastic life. The ending of our medieval adventure is also worth mentioning: we will prepare and consume the medieval food made of sacred flour. The meal will take place in the Krakow's Dominican Gardens that are not available to those who are not medieval wanderers...
