AN IDEAL WORLDa special walk through communist ideal city - Nowa Huta.

If you are in Poland mainly to see what is left over from the old political system and to find out what communist in the Central Europe was like, you will be probably disappointed. Unless you decide to take part in a special trip we have prepared for you. With us you can visit the true communist skansen - it is enough to leave the hectic Krakow city centre and go to the Nowa Huta (New Steelworks) district. It is a part of our city which was created after World War II as a true communist city.

Thousands of workers came here to help build their new houses around the biggest steelworks in Poland. Here we will show you an "ideal" socialistic town and we will tell you about the true life of "people from steel and iron".

We will take you to the church which became a symbol of fighting for a catholic belief in an atheistic society and will try to tell you about the Polish Solidarity Movement and a long fight for freedom and democracy. In the newly-opened museum you will see old photos and documents from that time and even Lenin's shoe - a fragment of a huge monument which some brave, young people tried to damage as a communistic symbol. It is really worth seeing - you will feel like watching an old black and white movie in a nowadays world of colorful announcements.
